There has been a rapid increase in the number of “portals” on the Internet. These are basically websites that lead you on to other websites by way of an affiliate link. So if you are looking for Home Appliances, you could visit a Home Appliance portal and find an array of different sites listed. When you click through to one of those sites, the site owner either earns a fee, or gets to “cookie” you so that he is credited as being the person who referred you should you make a purchase. Then they will be paid a commission.

ClickBank portals exist as well. They are usually nothing more than a more user-friendly view of the ClickBank Marketplace. However, all the links to the products are hoplinks containing the portal owner’s ClickBank Nickname. So any purchases made by a visitor will be credited to the portal owner.

These portals are potentially good money-earners by virtue of the fact that ClickBank commissions are generally quite high. However, many of them are just simple lists of products sorted by their categories. They don’t exactly inspire people to get out their credit cards and buy something. After all, who is going to trawl through a list of products and their very brief descriptions? And if they do, will they click through to the sales page to read more?

There are some ClickBank portal owners who have taken the concept a step further and turned it into a shop by adding pictures of the product. This makes it more of a ClickBank shop than a portal.

The big difference between buying a book from a book shop and buying an eBook online is that you can browse the physical book in a shop, but you are buying blind when it comes to eBooks.
The next logical step then, is to not only added product images to your portal, but to add reviews. People are more likely to buy a digital product if they can read a review of it.

So if you create a ClickBank portal, bear this in mind. Add reviews to your site if possible. You might be able to solicit reviews from other people (never from the product owner!), but you cannot beat writing your own review. That generally means buying a copy of the product and reading it, but if it’s a good product and you write a decent review of it, you should make your money back in commissions from sales.
